Indiana Pacers Training Facility

Project Detail:

Cost $50,000,000

Size 130,000 SF

The Ascension St. Vincent Center serves as the primary training facility for the Indiana Pacers, as well as the home offices of Pacers Sports and Entertainment (PS&E). The five-story facility is approximately 130,000 square feet and includes two NBA regulation courts, a weight room, a training room, and other amenities for Pacers basketball staff. The facility also includes multiple floors of high-end office and conference room spaces for PS&E.

HEAPY provided Retro-Commissioning services for this facility, focused on identifying opportunities for optimization of the existing systems relative to energy efficiency while improving the operational conditions in the facility. After installing a cloud-based data analytics platform at the site, HEAPY investigated the building air handling units, air terminal units, and applicable central plants, along with the associated digital controls. A written report was provided and included the following information:

  • A facility overview and utility data analysis.
  • A description of energy-saving measures with adequate detail to facilitate and implement.
  • A conceptual financial analysis of each energy-saving measure along with estimated first cost and energy savings for use in selecting the energy-saving measures for implementation.
  • Any recommended sequences to be implemented for each individual energy savings measure.

HEAPY worked hand in hand with facility staff and outside contractors during the implementation of each energy savings measure deemed viable. We then reviewed the recommended sequences with the BAS contractor and confirmed if they were implemented as expected. When necessary, our team provided direction to adjust sequences to ensure optimal performance and savings. A third-party Measurement and Verification (M&V) performed by the site electric utility confirmed that the annual energy cost avoidance for the facility would be over $40,000 as a result of this work. HEAPY also helped the site secure over $46,000 in utility rebates for this project.

The five-story facility includes two NBA regulation courts, a weight room, a training room, other amenities, and all offices for Pacers basketball staff. It also includes dedicated floors where St. Vincent is able to provide primary care, cardiovascular, and sports performance services for the athletes and the general public. St. Vincent occupies the fourth and fifth floors of the center and offers easy access to primary care, cardiology, and sports performance medicine, including strength and conditioning specialists, athletic trainers, dietitians, psychologists, and sports scientists.
