HEAPY is providing MEP engineering services for a new 6,400-seat multipurpose NCAA Division I arena on the Oxford campus at Cook Field. The design incorporates NCAA-compliant LED sports lighting for basketball and volleyball with integrated concert and event modes, high-capacity HVAC systems designed to accommodate variable occupancy loads, and resilient electrical infrastructure to support broadcast media operations. Our scope also includes LEED Gold energy modeling and coordination of site utilities.

Originally constructed in 1968, Millett Hall began as the home of men’s varsity basketball, with volleyball and women’s basketball added in 1974. The new arena will replace and expand upon the capabilities of the existing facility while enabling the university to reinvest in intramural recreation space, which will be relocated to the south lawn area of Millett Hall.

To better support student-athletes, the facility will provide expanded amenities beyond those currently available, including two dedicated basketball practice courts and a volleyball arena. The venue is designed to accommodate concurrent student activities and major campus events such as commencements, concerts, creative arts performances, and career fairs, while also creating new revenue-generating opportunities. The generous site footprint allows flexibility for future expansion, including potential connections to a hotel and/or restaurant development.
