Wake County Public Schools Rex Road Elementary
HEAPY was engaged by Wake County Public Schools to provide new Construction Commissioning services for the new Greenfield Rex Road Elementary School located in Holly Springs, North Carolina. The project included Design Phase and Construction Phase Commissioning activities, starting with Design Reviews and Pre-Construction project support. The new elementary school will be approximately 70,000 SF across two stories, along with a Media Center, Gymnasium, Kitchen and Cafeteria.
The Design Phase of the project has been completed, with HEAPY facilitating two project reviews with one at 60% CD and another at 100% CD prior to bid. The team collaborated with the owner’s quality assurance project manager and the MEP team on validating the Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR).
Design-Phase Commissioning Impact:
The commissioning team identified a shortage of make-up being delivered to the kitchen hood exhaust system. Working with the Engineer of Record, an air transfer pathway was identified, along with a sequence of controls to provide energy efficient demand control ventilation. The inclusion of these allowed for proper building pressurization, occupant comfort and safety.
As a part of the project during functional testing, HEAPY will utilize a building analytics platform to perform data analysis on 100% of the terminal units prior to owner acceptance. After initial functional testing, HEAPY will continuously collect building automation data and will perform operational reviews to validate systems are maintaining the expected energy, indoor air quality, and comfort levels.
