Putnam County New Jail and Sheriff’s Office
HEAPY designed the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for the new 34,914 SF Jail and Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office consists of 8,875 SF and the jail space consists of a total of 22,935 SF. The design was based on a 50-bed prototype with a 12-bed expansion option included to provide for more flexibility and resiliency for the facility.
The facility contains a full service kitchen facility, medical, classrooms, outdoor recreation, commissary, intake area, visitation (both contact and non-contact), central control and related staff offices. The facility uses the latest in technology and security including touch screen controls. The building was designed to be highly functional and, more importantly, economical to operate.
The administrative areas include the detective’s office, deputies area, dispatch, jail supervisor’s area, and conference room. The facility includes an Emergency Operations Center and 911 Dispatch.
The medical area included infectious isolation rooms, where proper ventilation and independent exhaust systems help to protect both the staff and the inmate population.
