Olentangy Local School District Berlin Middle School
Cost $42,000,000
Size 150,000 SF
HEAPY designed the HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems for a new 150,000 SF Berlin Middle School for Olentangy Local School District. This is the district’s sixth middle school to be built on 45 acres along Piatt Road, south of Olentangy Berlin High School in Berlin Township.
The new facility has a two-story academic wing, featuring multi-purpose and science classrooms. The remainder of the building includes a gymnasium, art classrooms, music classrooms, locker rooms, administrative offices, a computer lab, and a full-service kitchen.
SUSTAINABILITY & ENERGY EFFICIENT DESIGN
This building design uses fan wall technology in the air handling systems and low-temperature condensing boilers to maximize building heating efficiency. The domestic water heating system uses high-efficiency condensing water heaters. The HVAC air handling systems have demand ventilation controls to further reduce energy usage.
The building is zoned so that the academic areas can be set back independently from the gymnasium and locker room areas, which may be used in the evenings and on weekends.
