Antilles Middle/High School Replacement
Fort Buchanan | Puerto Rico
The U.S. Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is developing a new, combined Antilles Middle/High School at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico, to replace two existing educational facilities. Following a comprehensive evaluation of renovation and replacement options, a consolidated school was identified as the most cost-effective solution to meet the installation’s educational and operational needs. The new 21st Century (21C) learning environment will feature general-purpose classrooms, specialized instructional spaces, computer laboratories, an information center, gymnasium, auditorium, cafeteria, music and art rooms, administrative offices, and supporting campus infrastructure. The project also includes athletic fields, outdoor amenities, utility improvements, and a dedicated non-potable water supply building to support fire protection systems.
Working in collaboration with KZF Design, HEAPY is providing information and communication technology (ICT), security, and cybersecurity design services, along with commissioning services, to support the development of the new campus. HEAPY’s technology and security design responsibilities include the preparation of coordinated engineering documents in accordance with Department of Defense and DoDEA requirements, with particular attention to the specialized infrastructure, communications, and security needs of a modern educational facility.
The project incorporates stringent Department of Defense requirements for high-performance and sustainable building design, antiterrorism and force protection (AT/FP), physical security, and cybersecurity engineering and validation in accordance with applicable Unified Facilities Criteria. HEAPY’s multidisciplinary approach emphasizes close coordination with the design team through planning charrettes, design reviews, and project milestones to support compliance, constructibility, and the integration of critical technology systems.
Through its specialized ICT, security, cybersecurity, and commissioning expertise, HEAPY is helping the project team deliver a secure, resilient, and technology-enabled educational environment that supports military-connected students, educators, and families at Fort Buchanan.
