OhioHealth Canal Winchester Health Center

Cost $31,000,000
Size 40,000 SF
HEAPY provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering, fire protection engineering, technology engineering, and energy modeling services for the new OhioHealth Canal Winchester Medical Campus. This state-of-the-art facility will offer a full range of healthcare services to the growing communities of Canal Winchester, Franklin County, and Pickaway County. As OhioHealth’s first all-electric facility, it exemplifies the future of healthcare design.
The 40,000-square-foot facility includes a free-standing emergency department (10,000 SF) and medical office building (30,000 SF). The medical office will house primary care, sports medicine, women’s and reproductive care, as well as other specialty services such as imaging and laboratory services.
The project demonstrated OhioHealth’s commitment to sustainability and reducing carbon emissions. HEAPY’s energy-efficient design prioritized sustainability and patient comfort, incorporating cutting-edge technologies to optimize the building’s performance. The project features all-electric DX VAV rooftop units with electric heat and terminal boxes with electric heat, and heat pump water heaters for domestic water. Iterative energy modeling helped guide the team to optimize the building envelope and right-size equipment to reduce long-term facility energy usage. Additionally, the design includes LED lighting with dimming controls to meet or exceed ASHRAE 90.1 standards.
The $31 million medical campus, scheduled for completion during the Summer of 2025, will serve as a vital healthcare hub and enhance OhioHealth’s ability to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the surrounding communities. The electrical and technology systems will also be built with the capacity for expansion and adaptation, which supports potential growth or new operational uses in the future.
