Northeastern Local Schools Two New PK-12 Schools

Size 189,542 SF (Northeastern)

HEAPY provided comprehensive mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and technology design for the construction of two new PK-12 campuses as part of a $118 million project in one of the region’s largest K-12 districts. Northeastern Local School District’s original academic facilities were built in the 1950s and 1960s, and these new facilities will prioritize student-centered education and offer modern blended and multi-modal instruction opportunities for educators.
The new Northeastern school is a two-story building with separate entries for the middle/high school and elementary school, serving approximately 1,100 students. The other campus, Kenton Ridge, is a three-story building that will serve approximately 2,100 students, consolidating Rolling Hills Elementary and the district’s Northridge schools under one roof with separate wings for elementary and middle/high school students. Kenton Ridge will also contain most of Northeastern Local School District’s special education units.
The two new buildings have a requirement for LEED Silver Certification and will include high-efficiency chillers/ice storage, LED lighting, solar hot water, rainwater harvesting, enhanced security, branding, and Geopiers incorporated in the foundation system.
The Northeastern campus will retain Northeastern Local School District’s vocational agriculture program — one of the current academic offerings at Northeastern High School, where the district will also retain its athletics complex. Both facilities contain modern gyms, dining halls, libraries, and classrooms, as well as labs, vocational spaces, multimedia rooms, and administrative offices.
Also included in the project scope is the abatement and demolish of the following buildings:
- Northridge Elementary
- Rolling Hills Elementary
- South Vienna Elementary
- Northeastern High School
- Kenton Ridge High School (partial)
The new Northeastern Pre-K through 12th grade school building opened for the 2022-23 academic year, and the new Kenton Ridge Pre-K through 12th grade school is scheduled for opening the 2023-24 academic year.
