Kenyon College

Gordon Keith Chalmers Library

Project Overview

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the new Kenyon College Gordon Keith Chalmers Library, expected to open Spring 2021, will be a hub for undergraduate research and a laboratory for pedagogical innovation. The new library is approximately 92,000 SF, with four stories above grade, two below grade, and a central three-story atrium. The program includes conventional library spaces (e.g., physical collections), combined with digital commons, social spaces, and academic support services including advising, a writing center, and career development.

The underground garage abuts the library, and connects to it on both stories below ground. The Garage is approximately 95,000 SF with 264 spaces on two ramping levels.

The new library is expecting LEED Gold certification and presents one of the largest opportunities to reduce Kenyon’s carbon footprint through signification energy savings.

HEAPY is Commissioning these facilities to systematically optimize the building and ancillary systems so that they operate efficiently and effectively in accordance with the Owners Project Requirements, and that the facility staff has adequate system documentation and training, and to ensure that the fundamental systems are calibrated and operating as required to deliver functional and efficient performance.
