Dayton International Airport Sierra Nevada Hangars
Cost $90,000,000
Size 198,000 SF
HEAPY was hired by Sierra Nevada Corporation, a national firm specializing in aerospace and national security, to provide engineering design for the HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire suppression systems for two new maintenance hangars at Dayton International Airport. When completed, the hangars will be the largest maintenance repair hangars in the country.
The hangars include office and administration space, shipping and receiving areas, and a foam deluge fire suppression system. The projects are being delivered via CM at Risk approach.
The hangars are named Maintenance Repair Operations 1 and 2 (MRO-1 and MRO-2). MRO-1 was completed in January of 2023, while MRO-2 is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2024. These facilities have been constructed using a highly aggressive schedule of less than one year.
Being located inside the airport’s footprint, these greenfield builds were designed as secure facilities and required integration with the DIA fire alarm and public safety systems, as well as coordination with airport security and access control systems.
Total construction cost (per hangar): $45,000,000
Total square footage (MRO-1): 97,940 SF (90-feet tall)
Total square footage (MRO-2): 100,902 SF (90-feet tall)
