HEAPY provided professional engineering design and field observation services for the plumbing, fire suppression, heating, ventilating, air conditioning and electrical systems associated with the Dayton International Airport Aircraft Maintenance Hangar. The new hangar doubled the number of aircraft the company can host in Dayton overnight for maintenance.

The project scope for this $13 million, 77,000 square-foot hangar included:

  • new heating and ventilation system
  • new HVAC for the new service bay (HW reheat VAV boxes were used, with the condensing boilers as heat source)
  • new HVAC for the renovated receiving, support, parts, office, and shop
  • design of the relocation of existing HVAC equipment
  • electrical modifications and electrical distribution around the walls of the hangar
  • new lighting
  • site lighting around the hangar to comply with airport regulations
  • new vertical turbine type and jockey pumps sized to serve the fire suppression systems
  • new AFFF foam deluge system including hose stations and other required supplemental equipment to serve main hangar area, wet pipe system to serve all areas
  • new domestic water distribution piping including backflow preventers to all fixtures
  • new domestic hot water central plant and associated distribution piping
  • new storm piping and drains for flat roofs on new building
  • new natural gas piping
  • new plumbing fixtures
  • new compressed air plant and associated distribution piping
