We’re wishing our colleague Brian Shell, BIM Technician, a very well-deserved and happy retirement after 40 years of service to HEAPY’s colleagues and clients. Brian has been an integral part of HEAPY’s success, contributing to numerous projects throughout his career. His retirement provides an opportunity to reflect on the impact that his work has had in the industry.

As the construction industry continues to evolve, Building Information Modeling (BIM) has become an essential tool for engineers, architects, and contractors. BIM combines 3D modeling with data-rich information to create a comprehensive view of a building project, from design to construction and beyond. BIM technicians play a crucial role in this process, and their expertise is highly valued in the industry. `

Brian’s attention to detail and expertise in BIM modeling have been instrumental in ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget.

Brian played a vital role in the training and mentoring of new HEAPY colleagues, sharing his expertise and experience with the next generation of BIM professionals.

HEAPY will undoubtedly miss Brian and his expertise. However, his retirement also presents an opportunity for HEAPY to build on his work and continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in the construction industry. As new technologies emerge and the industry evolves, Brian’s contributions will remain a vital part of HEAPY’s history and a testament to the value of skilled professionals in the construction industry.

Read the Q&A below, about Brian’s favorite memorable moments and experiences at HEAPY, and his plans for enjoying his retirement.

What are you looking forward to in retirement?
“I am looking forward to more free time to golf and spend time with friends and family, hoping to buy another boat next summer (2024), and most importantly, I want to travel to Kansas City and Raleigh, NC to visit family. I also plan to visit Hilton Head to play golf with my buddy Gary Eodice (another recently retired HEAPY colleague), and visit the Bahamas and several other Caribbean Islands.”

What have been your favorite aspects working with HEAPY over years?
“I enjoyed my job and loved working with all the very intelligent HEAPY engineers who taught me so much not only about my job, but about life as well, and I enjoyed making great relationships with many colleagues that I intend to stay in touch with as long as possible.”

What is your favorite project(s) you worked on at HEAPY?
“I had so many projects over the years. The one that stands out the most is my time working with AT&T in Chicago being led by Mark Brumfield (HEAPY’s present CEO). The hours were very long at times, but after a long day, Mark or Jason Brown, HEAPY Solutions Director of Construction, and other colleagues would show us a great time in Chicago.”
