Mike Foley Department of Sustainability Director Cuyahoga County
Mike is the Director of the Department of Sustainability for Cuyahoga County. He was appointed to lead the office in February 2015 by Executive Armond Budish after having served in the Ohio General Assembly from 2006-2014.
Since 2015, Mike has led the office in developing the County’s first Climate Change Action Plan, an award winning 4 Mw landfill solar project, rooftop solar on 4 County facilities, and a new County public utility – Cuyahoga Green Energy – focusing on renewable energy microgrid districts.
Katrina Kelly-Pitou, PhD Energy Systems Strategist, Principal SmithGroup
Katrina is an expert in energy systems and economic development. Currently, she acts as a Principal in Systems Engineering at SmithGroup in Pittsburgh and is the National Co-Lead of the firm’s Performance Analytics and Climate-Impact Team. Pulling together engineers, architects, computer and environmental scientists, the group focuses on bridging the gaps between the technical and social development needed to future-proof the built environment across the globe. Katrina holds a PhD from the University of Nottingham in Energy Development Studies and is also a part-time professor at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Engineering.
Peter Protopappas, CEM Co-Founder Sigma Renewables
Peter is cofounder of Sigma Renewables, a renewable development firm focused on community solar and energy storage across the US. Previously, Peter was Sr. Director at Pivot Energy leading the small utility team efforts to build out energy storage projects across the US. Peter spent over 10 years at AEP, Navigant Consulting, and the US Department of Energy developing distributed energy projects across the US and consulting on energy policy at the local and federal level.
Peter is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a focus in strategy, both from the University of Maryland, College Park.

David serves as the firm’s Strategy Leader, Sustainability and Resiliency. He is passionate about helping people and organizations improve project outcomes, while creating a sustainable future for the planet and future generations.
David focuses on developing projects to meet the needs of today while preparing for tomorrow, including decarbonization and sustainability planning, custom energy solutions, distributed energy technologies, energy efficiency, commissioning, retro-commissioning, and high-performance green building projects.
David Krymowski Director South Region Cleveland Clinic
David has dedicated 39 years to working in project management and senior management roles across the healthcare and higher education sectors, serving as owner’s representative and managing construction projects. His career includes significant tenures at Kaiser Permanente, Case Western Reserve University, and, for the last 20 years, the Cleveland Clinic, where he serves as the Director of the South Region. David earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Akron. A lifelong resident of Northern Ohio, he lives there with his wife of 30 years and their six children.
Dwayne Henderson, RCDD ICT Practice Director HEAPY
As Practice Director, Dwayne leads the Information & Communication Technology (ICT) services at HEAPY and brings more than 30 years of industry experience to the role. He tracks new and emerging market trends, provides guidance and support for colleagues, and works with his team to ensure project outcomes meet and exceed client expectations. He is passionate about finding the best solution to complex problems and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation to get the job done right.
Dwayne first joined HEAPY in 2012, with a primary focus on developing and growing HEAPY’s ICT services. He maintains a high level of collaboration across all disciplines.
John is a Project Manager at The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company. He Graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Civil Engineering and has worked for Whiting-Turner for 21 years. He has specialized in the healthcare market for the last 17 years. Whiting-Turner Midwest Healthcare Leader.
With more than 28 years of experience in architectural design, Edward Paine serves a Principal at Hasenstab Architects, Inc. Mr. Paine has led some of Hasenstab’s largest healthcare projects for clients including The Cleveland Clinic and numerous health care systems throughout Ohio and Indiana.
Bill Thomas, PE Cleveland Regional Office Leader, Senior Principal HEAPY (Moderator)
As a Senior Principal of HEAPY and the Cleveland Regional Office Leader, Bill is recognized in the design and construction industry because of his expertise as a project manager and as an electrical engineer. His commitment to design innovation and a long list of high-performance building projects is where he continues to focus on building long standing relationships with clients.
Troy Bonte Associate Vice President of Facilities Management & Safety Ohio University
Troy serves as the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management & Safety at Ohio University. Troy leads a team of approximately 350 employees in 7 functional units who ensure safety, handle daily service, and perform maintenance and repair of campus facilities. He is dedicated to creating an inclusive and sustainable campus environment that is uniquely Ohio University
Prior to joining Ohio University in March of 2022, Troy served as Executive Director of Facilities Management & Planning for Otterbein University, located in Westerville, Ohio. Troy directed the Facilities Service Department, and other business operations including the University Bookstore, Mailroom, and Print/Copy Center. He held similar positions at Washington & Jefferson College located in Washington, Pennsylvania and Capital University, located in Columbus, Ohio. This represents a total of over 20 years of experience in public and private higher education.
Bonte holds a Bachelor of Arts in Management and Leadership from Otterbein University and a Master of Business Administration from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. He is a member of APPA (Association of Physical Plant Administrators) and served on the boards of both governmental and non-government boards. His key competencies include capital planning, labor relations, operations management, and public/private partnerships.
Troy Frye, PMP Real Estate and Construction Management Leader Bon Secours Mercy Health
Troy is the Director of Design & Construction, Northeastern Ohio for Bon Secours Mercy Health with responsibility for 5 Acute Care Hospitals and ancillary sites in the Youngstown and Lorain market. He is a PMP, holds a degree from Ohio State University, and a master’s degree in business, has owned his own consulting company, and is a member of COGENCE and ASHE. He has amassed nearly 30 years in engineering, real estate, facilities, and construction management experience driving value from an owner’s perspective working on unique projects all over the United States and in Costa Rica, Mexico, and even Germany and England. Troy’s experience includes 6 years with Cardinal Health, Thermosphere Scientific, 10 years in healthcare as V.P. of Design, Facilities, and Construction for a senior living company with responsibility for 107 buildings in 7 states. And, most recently, as Dir. Design of Design and Construction, Major Acute Projects for Mercy, Troy is just completing a $205M, 60 bed comprehensive, greenfield hospital and medical office building; the Kings Mills Hospital serving the Northeastern market of Cincinnati.
Andy is responsible for ensuring the operational and financial success of construction projects across the state. In his role, he provides strategic oversight for two offices and manages a team of nearly 100 employees. Andy’s journey in the construction industry began as a co-op with AMHigley, and he has since held various positions, including Project Manager, Project Executive, and Market Leader for Hospitality & Entertainment. Beyond his professional roles, Andrew actively engages with the Northeast Ohio community. His recent contributions include serving as a Board Member for the Construction Employer Association (CEA) and acting as the Chair of the CEA Future Executives Committee.
John Krutko, LEED AP BD+C Corporate Practice Director HEAPY (Moderator)
John serves as our Corporate Practice Director, serving several key markets that include cultural/arts, government, commercial, industrial and manufacturing. With more than 24 years of experience in mechanical design, multi-discipline project management, and construction administration, John prioritizes collaboration, efficiency, and client experience in all of his endeavors.
John is a member of ASHRAE, Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), and the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC).
