In collaboration with the Sustainability Luncheons’ team, this high-energy breakfast session features four Pecha Kucha-style presentations from local sustainability and resiliency leaders.
Through real-world stories of local action and success, speakers will explore sustainability from different angles, strategy, nature, human behavior, and leadership, highlighting how these pieces come together in practice across our region.
Fast, visual, and engaging, this session is designed to set the tone for the day with energy, connection, and a fresh perspective, leaving attendees inspired with practical ideas they can take back to their own organizations and communities.
The challenges of today necessitate future facilities that are efficient, resilient and regenerative. This session brings together leading designers, sustainability experts, and facility owners to explore how regenerative and high-performance strategies can address these challenges. This discussion will highlight ways to reduce costs, enhance occupant wellbeing, deliver long-term operational resilience, and restore ecosystems.
Panelists will share emerging practices; from climate-responsive building envelopes and materials with low embodied carbon, to integrated renewable energy systems, that enable facilities to produce more energy than they consume. Attendees will gain insight into practical, scalable strategies that can be applied across new construction and renovation projects alike, along with real-world examples showing how regenerative design can futureproof facilities, reduce operating costs, and create healthier, more adaptive buildings.
Rising energy prices, intensifying grid stress, and evolving regulatory pressures are reshaping how organizations plan for reliable, resilient operations. This session will highlight how local governments are navigating these challenges through diversified energy strategies that increase their community’s energy resiliency and reliability, providing increased control over rising energy prices.
Attendees will gain insight into how these market trends influence operational risk, capital planning, and long‑term energy strategies for communities. The session will highlight practical approaches organizations can adopt today to strengthen energy reliability, manage volatility, and build facilities that remain resilient in the face of both economic and environmental uncertainty.
The urgency of addressing climate change continues to grow, with the built environment contributing nearly 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Architects, engineers, and building industry professionals are uniquely positioned to help drive meaningful reductions through the planning, design, and operation of high-performance buildings.
In response, several industry-led initiatives, including AIA 2030, MEP 2040, and SE 2050, have established ambitious pathways to reduce operational and embodied carbon and advance the goal of net-zero whole-life carbon buildings. During this session, representatives from organizations participating in these commitments will provide an overview of each framework, share lessons learned from implementation, and discuss strategies they are using to integrate carbon reduction goals into their projects and practices.
Attendees will gain insight into how these initiatives are shaping the future of the built environment while fostering collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing across the architecture, engineering, and construction industry.
As challenging market conditions and costs to deliver high-quality care continue, it’s time to revisit a business-as-usual approach to infrastructure.
This session describes why we can no longer use the past (Data centers and energy demand, grid reliability, CMS waiver, JC – sustainability and emissions reporting) as a guide for the future and how strategic decisions can effectively reduce or shift capital costs, mitigate risk, and maximize organizational value.
We’ll examine emerging business models, technological applications, and specific design strategies that will unlock
different outcomes, better aligned with healthcare’s organizational energy, sustainability, and resiliency goals.
Despite undergoing changes, and navigating new and evolving challenges, sustainability programs are still essential drivers of long-term business growth. This session explores how forward-thinking companies are integrating sustainability into their core strategy to enhance competitiveness, strengthen resilience, and unlock new growth opportunities.
Panelists from leading public and private organizations will discuss how their sustainability programs are key drivers in shaping capital planning, operational priorities, and innovation pipelines. The discussion will highlight practical examples of how organizations are reducing risk, improving brand reputation, attracting talent, and identifying new revenue opportunities through well-structured sustainability strategies.
This panel will highlight actionable steps for organizations to advance their own programs, including governance structures, data and reporting tools, and strategies for securing leadership buy in. The session will demonstrate how sustainability, when approached strategically, becomes a catalyst for growth, efficiency, and long-term resilience.
