The Ohio State University Carmenton Commercialization Entrepreneurship Center

HEAPY is providing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services for the Commercialization and Entrepreneurship Center (CEC), a cornerstone development within the Carmenton innovation district at The Ohio State University. Developed by the Science and Technology Campus Corporation (SciTech), the multi-tenant facility is designed to support research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and office activities while advancing collaboration between academia, industry, and emerging technology companies.

Located near the Pelotonia Research Center and Energy Advancement and Innovation Center (EAIC), the CEC serves as the first phase of development identified through SciTech’s master planning efforts for Carmenton. The facility is envisioned as a flexible environment capable of accommodating evolving tenant needs, including research, laboratory, innovation, and office functions within a vibrant mixed-use innovation ecosystem.

As part of the project team, HEAPY is responsible for the design and coordination of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems that support the building’s operational flexibility, tenant adaptability, and long-term performance objectives. The engineering design emphasizes efficient building systems, infrastructure scalability, and coordination with multiple design disciplines to create an environment capable of supporting a wide range of technology, research, and entrepreneurial activities.

The project is being delivered using a Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) delivery method and requires close collaboration among numerous specialized consultants throughout design and construction. Through integrated engineering solutions and coordination with the broader project team, HEAPY is helping create a dynamic destination that will accelerate research commercialization, foster innovation, and support economic development within one of the nation’s leading research and technology districts.
