Nationwide Children’s Hospital- Research Building I & II
Cost $50,000,000
Size 104,500 SF
Renovations to Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s Research Building 1 (RB-1), Research Building 2 (RB-2) facilities are designed to modernize the research capabilities and enhance the functionality of these critical spaces. The project involved comprehensive engineering design and field observation services for plumbing, fire suppression, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, technology, and electrical systems, ensuring that these upgrades support the evolving needs of clinical research while maintaining operational efficiency.
Research Building 1 (RB-1)
Renovations in RB-1 include mechanical, electrical, and plumbing system replacements to support future research needs. Key updates include expanding mechanical capacity on the roof while reconfiguring spaces across multiple floors. The 5th Floor renovation will currently result in shell space for future growth, whereas the 4th floor will house clinical research administration spaces and pharmacy clean rooms, improving the functionality of research environments. Floors 3 and 2 will be updated to support additional office and support spaces for various research teams across NCH. The 1st Floor will upgrade public areas and the dock, and the Lower Level will realign the vivarium support space and add a new Research Core while also upgrading the outdated MEPT systems serving them.
Research Building 2 (RB-2)
The renovation of RB-2 will improve the separation between laboratory and office spaces, enhancing both research functionality and office spaces across levels 1 through 5. The 1st Floor will be reconfigured for clinical research, with the addition of a small wet lab. On the upper floors, wet laboratories will be modified to meet modern research standards. Workstations will be separated from the laboratory areas by full-height glass partitions, and utility and MEP systems will be upgraded to accommodate new lab equipment.
