Montgomery County Administration Building Facade Lighting
HEAPY provided electrical engineering and lighting design to light the exterior façade of the Montgomery County Administration Building. The original scope was to light all four sides of the building. Due to budget constraints, it was determined that the whole building could not be done. Working with the owner, we determined that the best course for the design was to light all four corners.
Fixtures were mounted at two different locations, at grade, and on the roof. During design, we worked with the light fixture manufacturer and a local contractor and mocked up one corner of the building to meet the Owner’s requirements. HEAPY coordinated the structural supports at the roof with the lighting manufacturer and a structural engineer to prevent anything from happening during a storm or wind event.
Color-changing controls were provided on this project to allow a multitude of colors with the ability to roll through colors, change scenes, and provide color(s) based on the time of year or holiday. The controls allow the owner to change the settings either at their desk or through the use of an iPad or iPhone. The building now has a colorful glow at night with the installation of 32 LED fixtures as part of the county’s capital improvement program.
