Jackson Township Fire Station

Project Detail:

Size 10,021 SF

Markets:

The new facility, encompassing slightly over 10,000 SF with interior spaces including 2 apparatus bays with adjacent ancillary spaces, an EMS treatment/triage room, a watch room and living quarters for 7 firefighters. In addition to a classroom for training and a physical fitness room, many training opportunities were incorporated into the design, at a minimal additional expense.

The LEED Gold fire station incorporated the following:

  • The HVAC systems do not use any CFC-based refrigerants to help reduce ozone depletion.
  • The Station was designed to optimize its energy use. Energy calculations show that there is a 31.5% cost savings compared to the baseline listed in ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2004.
  • All occupied spaces receive at least 30% more outside air ventilation than required by code. This will improve overall air quality and occupant comfort.
  • An Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) plan was developed to reduce problems resulting from the construction process in order to help sustain the comfort and well-being of construction workers and building occupants.
  • The building includes high level of mechanical and lighting system control by individual occupants or by groups in multi-occupant spaces (i.e. Training Room) to promote the productivity, comfort and well-being of building occupants.
  • Light bulbs selected for this project were low mercury content.
