Cost $58,000,000
Size 30,000 SF
HEAPY is providing engineering design services for a new central energy plant (CEP) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, the network’s flagship campus headquartered in Pinehurst, NC. The hospital is staffed by more than 5,000 employees and serves 15 counties in the mid-Carolinas.
The project will include the construction of a new CEP building and associated equipment designed to meet the healthcare campus’s current and future growth plans. The project includes:
- New generators and ATS equipment
- New chillers and pumps
- Chiller Optimization program
- New cooling towers
- New normal and emergency switch gear equipment
- New or expanded makeup well water system
- New utility tunnel connecting to the existing hospital
- Relocation of transformer sub-station
- Relocation of natural gas main header
- New underground diesel fuel storage tank for existing boilers
- Additional boiler feed water to existing boilers
- Relocation of existing Nitrous, CO2, Nitrogen, and Helium tank farms
COLLABORATION
The project will be designed and constructed using the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) method. HEAPY is using design charettes to help FirstHealth and the project team select the best approach to meet the current needs of the campus as well as future growth, with a focus on first cost versus life-cycle cost for different plant configurations. The team will balance cost, maintainability, resiliency, and energy efficiency with input from all stakeholders to ensure the best design approach is implemented.
