City of Vermilion New Police Headquarters
Cost $5,000,000
Size 9,900 SF
The City of Vermilion needed to reinvest in its public safety services, particularly its police department, which had been housed inside an outdated and inadequate facility for decades. The biggest challenge for the project was staying within the limited budget while creating a new police headquarters that provided all the vital and necessary spaces to support a modern policing operation.
HEAPY collaborated closely with City leadership, police department stakeholders, and the architect to create a new police headquarters facility that maximized the use of space and met all the vital needs of the existing and future police force. Engineering design services included mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and technology services for the new 9,900 SF facility, which is located adjacent to the City’s new fire station.
Highly efficient use of space was critical, which included a public lobby, booking area, two holding cells, dispatch, tornado shelter, evidence room, men’s and women’s locker and shower rooms, interview rooms, administration/offices, detective/investigation offices, flexible open office space, secure storage, evidence processing/storage, patrol staging area and offices, sally port, and IT and utility rooms. An on-site backup generator improves reliability and resilience for the facility in the event of an emergency.
The project is currently under construction and scheduled for completion in late 2025.
