City of Pataskala Police Headquarters
Cost $4,600,000
Size 17,000 SF
HEAPY provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design services, as well as energy modeling services for the City of Pataskala’s New Police Headquarters. The new facility replaces the city’s previous headquarters on South Main Street, where the department was crowded into a 130-year-old structure.
Energy modeling provided opportunities for the project team to validate system design choices and equipment selection to ensure that the infrastructure would be as energy-efficient as possible and have an acceptable return on investment. Taking an iterative approach with an architectural partner, we benchmarked the average Energy Usage Intensity (EUI) of a similar police station and established a target EUI that resulted in a 33% reduction in energy usage and cost savings of $7,000 per year.
The building features multiple secure entrances and improved storage and meeting spaces, as well as a host of new spaces not present in the previous location, such as the following:
- Three holding cells (previous HQ had no such cells)
- Three sally ports
- K-9 kennel area for strays, as well as potential use by K-9 officers
- Interview rooms
- Training and conference areas
- Lab for drug testing
- New safe room, which features bullet proof walls and door
The new headquarters also has its own generator that will double as a back-up for the Broad Street-facing city administration building, positioned directly in front of the new police headquarters.
