City of Kettering Police Department Renovation and Expansion
Cost $7,300,000
Size 30,100 SF
HEAPY provided the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design for the City of Kettering Police Department Renovation and Expansion. The project involved not just renovations, but an expansion, office relocations, and a new training center. A second story was added to the building, giving the 27,500 SF facility another 2,600 SF of space. The project added an additional floor for office space for the chief, captains and administrative staff, as well as modernized the facility with new HVAC and mechanical equipment.
The Kettering Police Department renovation was a total renovation of the existing police station (in phases) that included upgrades to the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure, including the UPS that serve their critical systems. The existing UPS was removed and upgraded with a new UPS in a new space. The new UPS now resides in a dedicated technology space and serves all of the critical EMS, Radio, 911 and Emergency systems at the police station. This upgrade/renovation took place all while having to maintain operation of the police station.
The City of Kettering Police Department has grown from two to five school resource officers in the past few years. This fast-growing segment of the police department was moved to another section of the building, along with other community relations personnel. The department has also seen an increase in female officers.
Nearly the entire layout of the Shroyer Road facility was re-purposed, including office relocations to allow the department to operate more efficiently. The detective area was moved, as well as the section of the department where sergeants and patrol lieutenants are stationed. The scope of the project created additional locker rooms while upgrading existing facilities.
