Butler Tech D Russel Lee Career Technical Center

HEAPY designed the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for the $20 million renovation project at the Butler Tech D. Russel Lee Career Technical Center. The project includes a 208,000 SF renovation and 37,000 SF addition. Butler Tech serves 600 HS students in the building, which includes enrollment from all nine associate school districts in Butler County, Ohio.

The initial work for the project involved a complete facilities and site assessment. The final project included the creation of new classroom space, renovations of existing classroom spaces, new entry design, site design and redevelopment, and the creation of a teared bio-swale system.

The criminal justice program includes: arrest and search, report writing, court procedures, writing traffic citations, crime scene, civil disorder, surveillance, gangs, vehicle patrol, foot patrol, CPR/AED, gambling laws, child abuse, prisoner booking, ethics and professionalism, forensic science, private security, Ohio Revised codes, riot control, communication, chemical agents, polygraph, bombs and explosives, arson, collecting evidence, line-ups, and juvenile justice.

The Culinary Arts program includes menu planning and design, nutrition, food preparation and service, sanitation, safety, inventory control and calculation of food quantities.

This project achieved a 33.7% energy cost savings over ASHRAE 90.1-2004 totaling an annual estimated cost savings of $10,000 per year.
40% of the total Divisions 2-10, 31-33 materials purchased for this project were manufactured, extracted and harvested within 500 miles of the project site.
Low-flow water fixtures such as dual flush water closets, 0.5 gpf urinals and 0.5 gpm aerators on all lavatory faucets contributed to a 43% water use reduction under WEc3
A highly reflective roof material was selected to help reduce the heat island effect
