Brooklyn City Center

The City of Brooklyn built a new combined City Hall and Police Station on the same site as the recreation center.  The project centralizes the existing civic campus. The former City Hall and Police facilities, across the street from the new facility, were demolished to make way for new community amenities. HEAPY provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and technology design services for this new center that serves the city in a better capacity and is one of the largest investments on municipal infrastructure the city has undertaken.

Basic elements within this facility include:

• Executive, Supervisory, Patrol, Interviewing and Investigative Offices
• Locker Rooms with shower and bathroom facilities
• Lobby for public entry for both Police and Court/City Hall
• Public Restrooms
• Offices
• Council Chambers
• Dispatch Area / Record Room
• Arms and Armor Storage
• Evidence Room and Storage
• Interior parking garage for official vehicles, tactical vehicles, and processing of non-police vehicles
• Jail Holding Facility
• Juvenile Holding
• Impaired Suspect Testing
• City Hall Administrative Offices

Mechanical Systems

• Smoke control system
• Radiant heat floor in lobby
• Storm shelter MEP systems, including natural ventilation
• Open-vendor control system

Electrical Systems

• 3 Standby power systems: Life Safety, Optional Standby, and Legally Required. The police facilities, animal control department, and jail can operate without issue solely on standby generator power if necessary.
• Fully integrated lighting controls with the BAS, helping the HVAC systems run as efficiently as possible.
• Generator, main distribution switchboard, and central UPS are all networked to the BAS.

Plumbing Systems

• Toilet room fixtures are Water Sense labeled and use less water than required per code.
• Water closets use 1.28 gallons of water per flush, and the urinals use 0.125 gallons per flush.
• Natural gas water heaters are energy star certified, approximately 97% thermal efficiency.
