The Athens City School District is constructing a new 138,059-square-foot high school at the site of the existing Athens High School. The new facility will serve approximately 598 students and includes 99,651 square feet of co-funded space and 38,408 square feet funded through a Locally Funded Initiative (LFI). Construction will take place adjacent to the existing high school, which will remain operational throughout the duration of the project.
Designed to meet LEED v4 Silver certification requirements, the project includes energy-efficient systems and an Emergency Responder Radio Coverage System. An early site package is anticipated to begin in May 2025, with construction delivered through the Construction Manager at Risk (CMR) method.
Upon completion and occupancy of the new building, the project scope includes the abatement and demolition of the existing high school, followed by final sitework.
