HEAPY is pleased to announce that Mark Mitchell, AIA, LEED AP, has joined the firm as our new Education Practice Director.

Mark brings nearly 30 years of architectural experience. He has led the planning and delivery of high-performing education and research facilities across the Midwest. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation for strengthening client partnerships, guiding multidisciplinary teams, and delivering complex projects with clarity, precision, and purpose.

His extensive portfolio includes campus master plans, student hubs, science and research laboratories, applied technology centers, and advanced robotics facilities, all of which shape the future of learning and discovery. Mark also led a Research Laboratory Benchmarking Survey, engaging institutions nationwide to advance industry insight into research facility performance.

Mark’s leadership further strengthens HEAPY’s national Education Practice as we continue expanding our impact across higher education, K–12, career technical, and research environments. His expertise will support our mission to design innovative, resilient, and student-centered spaces that empower institutions and communities.
