On September 17, 2025, more than 250 sustainability and energy professionals gathered at the Sinclair Conference Center in Dayton, Ohio, for the annual PIVOT Conference, hosted by HEAPY. What began in 2006 as a modest two-hour session has evolved into a full-day experience focused on driving innovation, resiliency, and sustainability across industries.

This year’s conference delivered a powerful blend of strategic insight and practical solutions. Attendees explored how emerging technologies, shifting energy demands, and evolving policy landscapes are reshaping the future of buildings and infrastructure. The day was structured around two morning tracks, two afternoon deep-dives, a keynote lunch session, and a vibrant networking happy hour.

Morning Tracks: Resiliency and Reliability in Focus

The morning sessions tackled two pressing challenges: how to build resilient facilities using emerging technologies, and how to navigate the growing uncertainty around energy demand and reliability.

One track explored solutions like solar PV, battery storage, and combined heat and power systems, technologies that not only safeguard operations during outages but also support long-term sustainability and cost savings. The other track focused on the PJM electric grid and the impact of data center growth on energy pricing. Experts shared strategies for building owners to mitigate risk and manage costs in a volatile energy landscape.

Keynote Lunch: Finding the Signal in the Noise

In a year marked by shifting regulations, economic headwinds, and mounting pressure to deliver on sustainability goals, the keynote session offered clarity and direction. Leaders from Fifth Third Bank, Miami University, and OhioHealth shared how their organizations are cutting through the noise to stay focused on what matters most: resiliency, impact, and long-term value.

Moderated by HEAPY’s David Deal, the conversation emphasized the importance of aligning sustainability efforts with core business strategies. Panelists discussed how they’re adapting to policy changes, engaging stakeholders, and measuring success in meaningful ways.

It was a candid, energizing dialogue that reminded attendees that progress is possible, even in uncertain times, when sustainability is treated not as a side initiative, but as a central driver of innovation.

Afternoon Tracks: Electrification and Policy Insights

The afternoon sessions zoomed in on building electrification and energy policy. One track showcased real-world geothermal projects and emerging electrification technologies, offering practical lessons and design strategies.

The other education track provided a timely update on federal, state, and local energy policies, helping attendees understand how to navigate regulatory shifts and align their sustainability goals with evolving mandates.

Building Momentum

The day wrapped with a lively networking happy hour, giving attendees the chance to connect, reflect, and continue the conversations sparked throughout the event. With support from partner organizations and a growing community of sustainability advocates, the PIVOT Conference continues to be a catalyst for progress.

HEAPY is proud to host this annual event and looks forward to continuing the tradition of education, collaboration, and action. Thank you to everyone who joined us, we’re already looking ahead to what’s next.
