MaryEllen Etienne is a sustainability and circular economy leader dedicated to building resilient, healthy and equitable communities. She is the creator and author of Women in Circularity—a platform highlighting women advancing the circular economy, and a Director on the Market Transformation & Development Team at the U.S. Green Building Council—where she expands the adoption of sustainable built environment solutions through LEED, SITES and TRUE. Throughout her career, MaryEllen has led impactful initiatives in sustainable materials management. She founded Reuse Alliance—the nation’s first reuse sector trade association, co-developed TRUE—the world’s first third-party verified Zero Waste certification program, and produced ReuseConex—the world’s first international reuse conference and expo. Her experience includes leadership roles with NYC Center for Materials Reuse, London Community Recycling Network, NYC WasteMatch and Materials for the Arts. A Climatebase Fellow, she also holds Circular Economy Specialist, LEED Green Associate and TRUE Advisor credentials.
