Under her leadership, Kaiser Permanente has become widely recognized as an environmental leader in the health care sector. Kathy has testified twice to Congress on the need for federal chemical policy reform, and she has appeared at numerous hearings on environmental issues. Her book Greening Health Care, How Hospitals Can Heal the Planet examines the intersection between health care and environmental stewardship arguing that hospitals can and should play a critical role in supporting the health of the planet. Kathy is also responsible for eliminating workplace injuries, promoting healthy lifestyle choices, and reducing health risks for the organization's 195,000 employees and physicians. She is on the boards of several leading non-governmental organizations focused on safety and environmental sustainability in health care.

Panel Discussion I: Clinical Operations

This panel will focus on “greening” the delivery of medical care within a healthcare institution. These panelists will inspire you with proven, sustainably-based, clinically related strategies that can be readily implemented at your hospital/health care facility.

Panel Discussion II: Healthcare Leadership Sustainability Perspectives

Join us for a panel of healthcare professional's perspective on environmental sustainability.  Sustainability advocacy and environmentally responsible healthcare practice are imperative to the healthcare industry.  While healthcare administrators strive to find operational efficiencies and reduction of costs, there are increasing pressures to ensure that sustainability initiatives are not only cost effective and provide a return on investment, but socially and environmentally responsible.

Keynote Presentation: How Health Care Must Change - New Opportunities and Critical Challenges

Tim Adams, FASHE, CHFM, CHC
Director, Leadership Development
American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE)

Market forces having a high probability to dramatically affect the Health Care industry are examined in the 2015 Edition of the American Hospital Association's Environmental Scan.  Tim's presentation will incorporate this forward look into health care's future and discuss how health care in general and health care building design specifically will need to change to meet market challenges.  Tim will compare past ES data to show how the thoughts of health care CEOs have evolved over the years, thus providing unique insight on the critical issues regarding health care in this country.  Without a doubt, Data Interoperability, Transforming Care Delivery, Quality & Patient Safety, and Energy Management are among key issues affecting Health Care organizations and the designers of health care's built environment.
