Heapy Engineering Headquarters
Heapy Engineering’s 45,000 SF Headquarters is the first facility in Ohio to be certified LEED Platinum under the LEED for Existing Buildings Operations and Maintenance v2009 rating system from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The building was originally certified LEED-NC Silver in 2004.
This transformation of a Mid-West firm’s normal office operations occurred through the determined efforts of Heapy Engineering’s LEED & Energy Services Department. Their process focused on guiding fellow employees to think and act beyond their norm. Although “eco-negativity” among building occupants was not very prevalent, the challenge was to move the over 140 employees (ie: building occupants) to become owners of the overall concept of actively being “green”.
This high performance building is supported by a web-based LonWorks system that integrates the control of eight separate building systems. A light harvesting system was used in the atrium area to make use of available natural light. Occupancy sensors are used throughout the building. Radiant flooring was used to reduce the startup load for the VAV reheat systems, and provide supplemental heat for the building perimeter. The building also uses a direct vented high efficiency boiler for heating purposes. A high density of zoning for all areas provides flexible and efficient control of the building comfort systems.
Heapy Engineering’s Corporate Headquarters was a 2004 recipient of The Governor’s Award for Excellence in Energy Efficiency.
