Englewood Municipal Building
Heapy Engineering designed the Mechanical-Electrical systems for the renovation and new additions to the Englewood Government Center. The center is the home for the City’s police and government departments. This is the first major renovation to the municipal building since its construction in 1974.The expansion is designed to enhance the safety and efficiency of each department with additional space and easier access to main roads.
The new 7,000 SF east wing addition houses the police department and dispatch center and has its own entrance in the front. An underground parking garage with a firing range for officer training is located below the new police addition. The original police department, on the building’s west side, underwent extensive renovations to become the new home for the City’s fire department. The 4,800 SF addition incorporates a 3-bay apparatus area, sleeping quarters and fire administration office.
Both occupancy sensors and lighting control integration with DDC system were utilized throughout the addition and renovated areas for enhanced energy efficiency. LED exterior wall wash luminaires were used to reduce maintenance and energy costs. Alarm response lighting in specific areas was required to alert responders, and provide adequate light levels for response in support and apparatus bay areas. Dimming controls were placed at ornamental lighting in the grand tower area to reduce energy costs.
This brings all the public safety departments together with the City administration. A 690 SF, two-story entrance, incorporating a winter garden vestibule, creates an inviting space to welcome visitors.
The project was completed in 2004 with a Mechanical-Electrical construction cost of $1,173,000 and a total construction cost of $3,500,000.
