Heapy Engineering provided Mechanical-Electrical design, LEED Program Management and Commissioning Services for Elements IV Interior’s new corporate headquarters. The project was a 35,000 SF renovation of a former manufacturing facility.
This project included the following LEED parameters: a large percentage of the construction waste was recycled or donated to Habitat for Humanity; the carpet system used carpet tiles made of recycled content that was manufactured within 500 miles of the project site; materials with recycled content were used to reduce dependence on virgin materials; construction materials made of rapidly renewable materials were chosen; lighting controls were designed to give over 90% of occupants control over individual task lighting through use of systems furniture; and low-VOC adhesives and sealants were used throughout the construction process.
One of the unique features of the original structure was the use of indoor trees and skylights, and they were again highlighted in the new design.Compact boilers were also installed in the mechanical room to provide water for the HVAC system. This efficient system will help to reduce electricity usage and meet the requirements for LEED certification.
This project is LEED Silver Certified.
The project was completed in 2006 with a construction cost of$2,100,000.
