Wright State UniversityUC Health and Heapy Engineering are co-hosting the 7th Annual Symposium on Sustainability in Health Care (SSHC-17).  The SSHC is an educational event for Healthcare providers and industry partners. New this year, ACHE (American College of Healthcare Executives) and TSHE (TriState Society of Healthcare Engineers) have joined the Symposium as Education Partners.


  • A Keynote Luncheon with Dr. Nicholas LaRusso.
  • New this year, 2 Educational Tracks with sessions starting at 10 AM.
  • A Trade Show with exhibitors focusing on the Health Care industry runs concurrent with the Symposium.
  • Who should attend: Health Care administrators, medical practitioners, A/E/C professionals, nursing/clinical staff, medical students/educators, environmental health and safety personnel and facility managers.
  • Education Partners, TSHE (TriState Society of Healthcare Engineers) and ACHE (American College of Healthcare Executives) have joined SSHC-17.

The Keynote Speaker discussion will focus on the link of Wellness and Sustainable Design.

Dr. LaRusso's talk will focus on the link of Wellness and Sustainable Design.  He will help us explore how integrating Healthcare's evidence-based design concepts with sustainability-based design and construction strategies will positively affect human health, well-being and comfort.  He will explain how and why Healthcare leaders and leaders of the organizations and businesses serving healthcare can and should promote such integration.  He will also discuss the results observed when they do.


Evidence Based Design

The panel will discuss how Evidence-Based Design (EBD) is the process of basing design decisions regarding healthcare facility environments on achieving the best possible patient outcomes.

Rosalyn "Roz" is President and Principal Interior Designer of CAMA in New Haven, Connecticut. CAMA, Inc. is a health design studio and lab that has spearheaded the evidence-based design movement. CAMA’s mission focuses on designing a better LIFE INDOORS where all can thrive and flourish.

Joe Ferdelman, PE, HFDP, LEED AP BD+C
Healthcare Practice Leader, Heapy Engineering

Joe joined Heapy Engineering in 1990 as a HVAC Design Engineer and subsequently became a Project Manager and in 2001 was named a Principal in the firm.  He serves as the firm’s Healthcare Practice Leader. In this role he provides guidance to the firm’s engineering staff on matters regarding the latest innovations in healthcare design and the development of design tools, codes and overall industry insight.

Jarrod McNaughton, MBA, FACHE
President, Kettering Medical Center
Executive Vice President, Kettering Health Network

In Jarrod’s previous position, he was the Network Vice President of Missions and Development at Kettering Health Network (KHN). In this role, he was responsible for marketing, communications, government relations, community relations, church relations, mission integration, spiritual services and network philanthropy alignment.

Craig is the Chief Strategy Officer for Premier Health. He joined Premier Health in 2007. He has direct responsibility for strategic planning, service lines, market research and development, physician and advanced practitioner recruitment and business development. 

Michael Uhl, MSN, MBA, RN, CEN
President, Atrium Medical Center (Premier Health)

Mike assumed the role as president of Atrium Medical Center in January 2017. Prior to that, he served as the hospital’s chief operating officer after a stint as Premier Health’s system vice president of operations innovation.
